The Challenge
This Victorian home in Wandsworth had beautiful original pine floorboards, but decades of wear had left many boards split, damaged or missing. Around the fireplace, an old concrete hearth had been removed, leaving a gap in the floor where new boards had to be carefully stitched in. Before any sanding could begin, the floor needed extensive repair to bring it back to a sound, level surface.
Work Completed
- Damaged and missing pine floorboards repaired and replaced with matching reclaimed boards
- New floorboards stitched in around the old concrete hearth to close the gap seamlessly
- Whole floor sanded with belt and edger sanders
- Finished with a primer coat and hard-wearing coats of commercial lacquer
The concrete hearth restitch was the trickiest part — matching the width, grain and colour of the surrounding boards so the repair blends invisibly into the original floor. Once the repairs were complete, the whole floor was sanded back to bare timber and brought to life with a warm, natural finish.
What a transformation. A labour-intensive job, but the reward is a beautiful, characterful pine floor the owners can enjoy for many years to come.
