We recently completed the restoration of a walnut wood floor at a residential property in Greenwich, giving the timber a fresh, contemporary appearance while preserving its natural character. After carefully repairing and sanding the floor back to bare wood, we applied Bona White Primer to create a subtle whitewashed effect that softened the walnut’s darker tones and beautifully enhanced the grain. The floor was then finished with a durable protective coating, resulting in a bright, elegant surface that complements the home’s modern interior while providing long-lasting protection against everyday wear.
The Challenge
This walnut floor restoration project in Greenwich presented several challenges that required careful planning and attention to detail. As the property was fully furnished, we had to carefully move and protect furniture throughout the project, completing the work in stages to minimise disruption.
Achieving the desired whitewashed finish also required extensive colour testing, as Bona White Primer reacts differently depending on the natural tones of the walnut. Finally, the finishing process demanded longer drying times between coats to ensure the primer and protective finish cured correctly, allowing us to achieve a flawless, durable result without compromising the quality of the restoration.
